Track rankings in specific cities
Choose city-level locations in Rank Tracker and compare the same keywords across markets.
A national ranking can hide local differences. Use Local / City scope when you need results from named cities or areas.
Set up city tracking
- Open Rank Tracker and select New Rank Tracker Report.
- Name the report and choose Local / City in Scope & Basics.
- Choose the engine, result depth, and device. Add your target website and keywords.
- In Locations, select a country.
- Type into City / Area. Select the correct suggestion and check its type: a city and a state can share a name.
- Select Add. Confirm that the full location appears below the picker, then repeat for other cities.
- Select Next, review the report, check I confirm the inputs are correct, and select Create Report.
For example, choose United States, search for New York, and select the city suggestion. Add Chicago or Miami to compare other markets.
Leaving the city blank and selecting Add targets the whole country. Check the added location list before submitting.

Keep the keywords, engine, and device consistent across locations. In the completed report, use the location filter and ranking table to compare markets.
For a grid of nearby search points around an address, use Local Heatmap. To understand ranking changes over time, read your ranking report.
