# Track rankings in specific cities

> Choose city-level locations in Rank Tracker and compare the same keywords across markets.

A national ranking can hide local differences. Use **Local / City** scope when you need results from named cities or areas.

## Set up city tracking

1. Open **Rank Tracker** and select **New Rank Tracker Report**.
2. Name the report and choose **Local / City** in **Scope & Basics**.
3. Choose the engine, result depth, and device. Add your target website and keywords.
4. In **Locations**, select a country.
5. Type into **City / Area**. Select the correct suggestion and check its type: a city and a state can share a name.
6. Select **Add**. Confirm that the full location appears below the picker, then repeat for other cities.
7. Select **Next**, review the report, check **I confirm the inputs are correct**, and select **Create Report**.

For example, choose **United States**, search for **New York**, and select the city suggestion. Add **Chicago** or **Miami** to compare other markets.

Leaving the city blank and selecting **Add** targets the whole country. Check the added location list before submitting.

## Compare like for like

Keep the keywords, engine, and device consistent across locations. In the completed report, use the location filter and ranking table to compare markets.
